A holistic approach to skincare

A holistic approach to skincare

We all know skin is an organ, a living one with active cells which are constantly changing.

All organs in the body are connected, so it does not come by surprise that when something is not functioning properly all other systems fail to work correctly. Luckily our body is such a fantastic machine that most of the time it is able to maintain balance, but sometimes when there is an overload it gives in and things start happening.

I'm often asked'' but why now, why is it happening, i never had this problem before''.

The body goes through phases, stress, illness, trauma, hormonal changes are all trigger for inflammation. It manifests in different ways and sometimes it shows on skin. There is also a genetic connection to certain skin conditions. Trying to find a holistic approach will help in in keeping these conditions at bay.

Most of the time skin conditions or skin problems do not come overnight, unless as of an infection or cross contamination. We often see the end result, but I always advocate to listen to our bodies, look and feel any changes and seek professional advice when things are not clear.

We are what we eat. I am a firm believer that feeding our body good food will help ithe skin too. I am not saying fatty food or sugar will cause acne, but if you have a skin condition sugar exasperates it even further. This includes other conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Hydration is also a number 1 rule in skincare. Dehydration will cause dull tired skin no matter how much money you spend on your skincare.

External factors also have a great impact on sensitive skin. Allergens are found in many household products like room fragrances, shower gels, fabric conditioners, cleaning agents. List is endless, if you or a loved one suffers with a skin condition these should also be checked and ideally swapping to milder more natural alternatives.

Organic skincare and high quality ingredients will also help. No pesticides, nor refined or hydrogenated ingredients will be present and although through skin only a small amount goes through, using it daily for the next 30 0r 50 years will be detremental to our health.

I must also say though and I might sound controversial that Organic and natural are not necessarily safe, and lab made ingredients are not evil. It's all about the formula and the concsious use of such ingredients. Knowledge is key!
